About This Quote

All art is propaganda. It is universally and inescapably propaganda; sometimes unconsciously, but often deliberately, propaganda. This quote is from the movie "Man with a Movie Camera" by Dziga Vertov. The film was released in 1929 and is said to be the first documentary ever made.It was set up with multiple cameras all over the city of Moscow to produce one single film.

These cameras were used to capture the everyday life of citizens in the Soviet Union. As they randomly walked the streets, they saw their friends and families in action, heard music coming from hidden speakers, and experienced life through different viewpoints. They learned about people’s daily lives, their beliefs, and what it means to be human.

The film was meant to show how everyone is connected through their lives and that we must look beyond the surface of our surroundings in order to truly see what makes us human.
